Shimogamo Shrine

The history of Shimogamo Shrine dates back to around 90 B.C., originating from the ancient clan of Kamo, who worshiped the deity of agricultural prosperity. Its official name is Kamo Mioya Shrine, and it became known as Shimogamo Shrine because it is located downstream of the Kamo River. The shrine is renowned for various blessings, including beauty, matchmaking, children, and traffic safety.
While wearing a kimono, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the expansive forest surrounding the shrine, seeking the blessings of its various deities.
Transportation Access
From the Gojō store, walk 6 minutes to the Kawaramachi Gojō bus stop, take city bus No. 205 (bound for Shijo Kawaramachi / Shimogamo Shrine / Kitaōji Terminal), get off at Shin-Aoi Bridge, and walk for 3 minutes to reach Shimogamo Shrine.
Minamiza Theatre

Born in the theater district of Kyoto’s Shijo-Kawara, it has remained at the heart of a diverse range of entertainment, including Kabuki, for over 400 years.

Take the City Bus Route 5 from Gojo Takakura Bus Stop toward Okazaki Park, Heian Shrine, Ginkaku-ji, and Iwakura → Get off at Shijo Kawaramachi, then walk for 7 minutes.
