Restaurant “NIWA” at the Kyoto Station Building East Square, and the illuminated teahouse “KIWA” ⌇ Kyoto sightseeing in a rented kimono

The East Plaza of Kyoto Station Building has been transformed into a “garden” where visitors can experience the charm of Kyoto. The “NIWA Project,” a fusion of tradition, food, and art, has been launched by NAKED, INC.
As part of this project, a new restaurant called NIWA opened on Monday, March 10, 2025. It features the interactive art installation Tea House of Light “KIWA” by NAKED.
This is an event that both visitors to Kyoto and local residents can enjoy☺

We highly recommend wearing a kimono to this event!

There are countless photo spots throughout the event, and the theme of a mystical night experience makes kimono the perfect attire☺
For those concerned about returning the kimono late due to the event running into the evening, Yumeyakata offers next-day and delivery return options.
(For same-day return, kimonos must be returned by 5:30 PM.)

Enjoy the event until late by choosing next-day or delivery return options!

Typically, kimono rentals must be returned by 5:30 PM the same day. However, if your reservation time is after 12:00 PM, you can return the kimono the following day (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) for free.
Alternatively, you can return the kimono via delivery from your hotel or a convenience store for just ¥880.

[For visits between 9:00 – 11:30 AM]
Next-day return: ¥1,100 → ¥550
Next-day delivery return: ¥1,980 → ¥1,430

[For visits between 12:00 – 4:00 PM]
Next-day return: ¥1,100 → Free
Next-day delivery return: ¥1,980 → ¥880

A project uniting tradition, cuisine, and art

Yumeyakata staff visited with the “Standard Plan with hairstyling & hair accessory” plan.

Highlight ①: Art Terrace Lounge NIWA

NIWA is a restaurant offering dishes made with carefully selected Kyoto-sourced ingredients and branded products.
Their diverse drink menu features Kyoto-made matcha, coffee, Japanese tea, sake, craft beer, and more—letting visitors discover a new side of Kyoto each time they visit.
Snack sets made with Kyoto ingredients are paired with drinks: “Kin” (Gold) for beer, “Gin” (Silver) for sake, and “Zen” for vegan guests—each letting you experience Kyoto through unique flavors.

Highlight ②: Tea House of Light “KIWA”

Centered around the hanging scroll “KIWA”, given by Grand Master Sen Sōshitsu of the Urasenke school of tea, this art installation blends tradition with innovation.
The space is themed on the “East” according to Kyoto’s Four Gods philosophy, and features elegant bamboo art by Akane Teshigawara, Headmaster of the Sogetsu Ikebana school; a garden by Katsunori Ogawa (successor of Jihei Ogawa, renowned garden designer); and digital art by NAKED.
Together, they recreate a tranquil atmosphere reminiscent of the pure waters of the Kamo River and Kyoto’s natural beauty.

Note: In feng shui, the “Four Gods” represent ideal geomantic conditions for prosperity. Kyoto was relocated based on this principle during the Heian period.
